Betsy Mitchell

Betsy Mitchell (born January 15, 1966 ) is a former American swimmer .

At the 1986 World Championships in Madrid , she was world champion over 100 m back . Two years earlier she won the silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles over 100 m back behind Theresa Andrews . She also won 11 national titles, including 7 championships over 100 yards back.

In 1986 she was named America's Swimmer of the Year . In 1998 she was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
