Elizabeth Hand (born March 29, 1957 in Yonkers , New York ) is an American science fiction and fantasy author.

biography

Hand grew up in Yonkers and Pound Ridge , New York. She studied drama and anthropology at the Catholic University of America . From 1988 she lived on the Maine coast . This area subsequently became the setting for many of their stories. She now lives in Lincolnville . She also lived temporarily in Camden Town , London , and her works Mortal Love and Cleopatra Brimstone also play here .

In 1988, her first story, Prince of Flowers, appeared in Twilight Zone magazine . Her first novel, Winterlong, followed in 1990. Together with Paul Witcover , she designed the series Anima for DC Comics in 1993 and was subsequently also one of the authors of the series.

She has also written spin-offs for feature films and television series such as Star Wars tie-in novels and books for films such as The X-Files - The Movie and 12 Monkeys . She drove a Bride of Frankenstein novel to the series of classic movie monster novels published by Dark Horse Comics .

A hand theme in the Winterlong saga is the ruthless exploitation of animal and plant species to create what she calls "gene slaves". An example is a three hundred year old reconstructed Basilosaurus named Zalopus; the "Aardmen", hybrids of dog and human; Hydrapithecenes, human-fish or human-octopus hybrids that are somewhat reminiscent of Davy Jones from the Pirates of the Caribbean film series and sagittals, pustules that have been genetically modified to be worn as a bracelet and when their host is threatened or threatened feels excited to extrude a spine with a deadly neurotoxin.
