CJ Cherryh
Caroline Janice Cherry (born September 1, 1942 in St. Louis ; known by her author name CJ Cherryh ) is an American writer.
She has written more than 50 science fiction and fantasy novels as well as a variety of short stories since the mid-1970s , including Hugo Award winners Kassandra (1979), Pells Stern (1982) and Cyteen (1989). She lives in Washington State .
writing style
Cherryh describes her typical writing style as "very limited narration in the third person". In this style the story is told from the perspective of the current character - and only what this character notices or what he thinks is told. For example, if a spaceship captain arrives at a space station, the narration will not mention anything about what the station looks like or how it works, even if the reader would be interested, because these details are already so well known to the captain that he does not notice them or he doesn't think about it. This writing style is sometimes like reading directly the thoughts of the character in question. The style is then very similar to the stream of consciousness- style writing .
As can be seen from the list of works, Cherryh mainly writes cycles, with each book in a cycle making sense when read on its own and has a completed plot. Characteristic of Cherryh's novels are complex, nested storylines with which she revived the genre of space opera in the 1980s.
