Willi Glasauer

Willi Glasauer (born December 9, 1938 in Stříbro ) is a German artist . He lives in Berlin and in the Pyrenees .

Life

From 1958 to 1963, Willi Glasauer trained as a commercial artist at the art school in Mainz . From 1963 to 1974 he worked in various positions as a packaging designer, art director and magazine designer under Willy Fleckhaus at Twen . After his first major job as an illustrator ("Danny's dream" for the star ), for which he was awarded a medal by the Art Directors Club , he resigned from teaching in 1975 on the day of his official appointment. He went into business for himself and moved to the south of France a year later. There he lived with his wife in a small farming village in the Pyrenees until 1987, worked for the French publishers Gallimard Jeunesse and L'école des loisirs and for the Belgian publisher Casterman . He later returned to Germany, to Berlin, which was then still divided.

Create

Glasauer has been working for German publishers such as Aufbau-Verlag , Kindermann, Fischer and the Gutenberg Book Guild since 1976 . Since 1988 he has only lived in the Pyrenees in summer and in Berlin in winter. In addition to the illustrations for (children's) books, between 1977 and 1988 he designed around 60 book covers for Beltz & Gelberg and numerous literary illustrations in various magazines such as Stern , Die Zeit , Zeit-Magazin , Brigitte , Manager Magazin , Zitty and Playboy . Several films were made for Bayerischer Rundfunk. In addition, from 1987 to 1997 he was in charge of the Almanaque cultural with illustrations for texts a. a. by Mario Vargas Llosa and Manuel Vázquez Montalbán , published by Circulo de Lectores in Barcelona. In 1987 he designed the covers for eight volumes of works by Russian classics for the same publisher. He also created free drawings.
