Hilary McKay

Hilary McKay (born June 12, 1959 in Boston (Lincolnshire) ) is a British writer .

Born the eldest of four sisters, she studied botany, zoology, English, and psychology, and tried different professions before starting to write. Four Mad Sisters , her first book, won a Guardian Children's Fiction Prize in the UK in 1992 . She then published numerous other children's books. The Skylarks' War won the 2018 Costa Book Award in the Children's Book category.

In 1998, the German director Thomas Draeger adapted her children's book A Dog named Friday to the television film of the same name.
