Elizabeth Laird

Elizabeth Laird (born October 21, 1943 in Wellington , New Zealand ) is an English writer .

Life

Laird, who has Scottish ancestry, came to England as a child in 1945 , after completing her education moved first to Malaysia , then to study in Bristol ( Bachelor of Arts , 1966), then to Ethiopia . There she worked as an English teacher. In 1972 she received her Master of Arts in Literature from Edinburgh University .

Other stations were life after her future husband David Mc Dowell had met, India and Iraq , from which it during the Civil War for Vienna was evacuated. In 1979 the couple moved with their two sons to Richmond , where both partners still live and write today.

Elizabeth Laird has published over twenty books for children and young people . The works often deal with the fate of English families, but Elizabeth Laird has also processed her experiences abroad, for example in Kiss the Dust . The plot of this book is set in Iran and Iraq. It received the Children's Books Award in 1992 and was also awarded the Dutch Royal Geographical Society Glass Globe Award .

Many of her books have also been translated into German.
