Maurice de Sully

Maurice de Sully (* 1110 ; † September 11, 1196 ) was Bishop of Paris from 1160.

Life

He was of peasant origin and not related to the noble Sully family. He embarked on a spiritual career, became maître in theology , canon and archdeacon in Paris .

During his tenure as Bishop of Paris, the foundation stone was laid for the Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral .
