Rolf Michaelis (writer, 1933)
Rolf Michaelis (born August 8, 1933 in Schwäbisch Hall ; † April 3, 2013 in Hamburg ) was a German columnist , essayist , biographer and writer .
Michaelis studied German and English and French philology. With a dissertation on "The structure of Hölderlin Oden " he was at the University of Tübingen 1958 PhD . He then worked as an editor in the features section of the Stuttgarter Zeitung . From 1964 on, Michaelis headed the literary paper of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung until he moved to Berlin in 1968 as its cultural correspondent. In 1973 he became head of the literature section of the time . From 1985 to 1998 he worked as a feature editor for Die Zeit . He was a member of the PEN Center Germany . He was also a member of the Darmstadt “Book of the Month” jury.
In 1966 Michaelis was awarded the Theodor Wolff Prize , and in 1987 the Helmut Sontag Prize .
His brother is the physician Richard Michaelis (1931–2017).
