Richard Michaelis (medic)

Richard Michaelis (* the 30th May 1931 in Schwäbisch Hall , † 17th January 2017 in Tübingen ) was a German doctor for Pediatrics focused on the development neurology and pediatric neurology .

Live and act

Richard Michaelis was born on May 30, 1931 in Schwäbisch Hall, the son of a family of doctors. After training as a landscape gardener, he studied medicine at the Universities of Freiburg , Tübingen and Munich and received his doctorate there in 1958. He then worked as a specialist in paediatrics at the University Children's Hospital of Göttingen , where he completed his habilitation in 1968. From 1969 to 1970 he was he works as a pediatrician in the USA ( University of California in Los Angeles / Division of Pediatrics). Michaelis had been working at the University Children's Hospital in Tübingen since 1971 , where he set up a department for developmental neurology, which he headed as medical director until his retirement in 1997. Since 1985 he has held a newly created chair for developmental neurology , social pediatrics and neuropediatrics .

Michaelis died on January 17, 2017 in Tübingen; his grave is in the Tübingen city cemetery . He dealt with early childhood development and child development disorders throughout his life and is considered a pioneer in his field.

His brother is the writer and columnist Rolf Michaelis (1933–2013).
