The Bible (original title: The Bible ) is a ten -part American mini-series of the US broadcaster History . Developed by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett , it reconstructs the most important episodes of the Bible , from Genesis to the Acts of the Apostles . The first broadcast in the USA took place from March 3 to March 31, 2013 in double episodes. In Germany, the series was broadcast on VOX on April 17, 2014 . The successor is the series AD: The Bible Continues .
In the US, the series was a great success for the History broadcaster; the first episode alone saw 13 million viewers. If you add up the viewers of reruns of the series, The Bible has so far reached 100 million people worldwide. Parts of the miniseries as well as unaired scenes were reused for a film about the life of Jesus called Son of God . NBC ordered a sequel to the series in 2014, which has aired since April 5, 2015 under the title AD: The Bible Continues . However, this series relies entirely on new actors.
action
In addition to popular biblical motifs such as the story of Abraham , Moses and Jesus Christ , stories from the Bible are also reconstructed on film that have so far received little or no attention from the film industry, including Joshua and the fall of Jerichos or the story of the prophet Daniel .
On the other hand, important biblical stories are completely missing, such as those of the ancestor Jacob (he gave the people of Israel his name) or those of Solomon , who had the Jerusalem temple built.
occupation
Compared to other Bible films and series, the producers of the Bible did without well-known actors. The best known are Paul Freeman in the role of the prophet Samuel or Roma Downey himself in the role of Mary . It is also noticeable that the casting department also allows innovations in the field of Bible film. An Asian actor, Liang Yang , embodies an angel in the episode At the Beginning . For the first time in Bible film history, a black actor - Nonso Anozie - embodies the biblical judge Samson in the episode The Promised Land .
controversy
The portrayal of Satan by the Moroccan actor Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni caused controversy in episode Hope . The conservative American television preacher Glenn Beck believed that Ouazzani was similar to US President Barack Obama . Then the producers Downey and Burnett took a position: This is utter nonsense. The actor who played Satan, Mehdi Ouazanni, is a highly acclaimed Moroccan actor. He has previously played parts in several Biblical epics - including Satanic characters long before Barack Obama was elected as our President. (English: This is pure nonsense. The actor who played Satan, Mehdi Ouazanni, is a highly acclaimed Moroccan actor. He has previously played roles in several Bible epics, including satanic characters, long before Barack Obama was elected our President. )
