Karl Urban (journalist)

Karl Urban (* 1984 ) is a German author, freelance science journalist and occasional lecturer at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . His subjects are: astronomy, energy, geosciences, internet and space travel.

Life

Karl Urban took an early interest in planets and studied geosciences in Tübingen, where he works as a science journalist, where he spent a semester on a research trip in Iceland in 2011 with a grant from the European Geosciences Union . He worked for student media and runs the science blog “AstroGeo” and podcast about stones and stars . He writes books about space travel and astronomy and has been running the internet portal "Raumfahrer.net" since 2001. Today he works for radio, online and print editors, including mainly Deutschlandfunk, Spektrum.de , Tagesspiegel , Neue Zürcher Zeitung , Stuttgarter Zeitung and Süddeutsche Zeitung , as well as the radio stations SWR2 , WDR5 , Deutschlandfunk Nova , Substance and Welt am Sonntag and occasionally as Lecturer at the University of Tübingen. In 2015 he took over the editorial work for a publication of the Federal Institute for Hydraulic Engineering .

He was on a press trip, invited by the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility , to the Synchrotron in Grenoble and by EUMETSAT to visit the environmental satellite Sentinel-3 A in the clean room in Cannes and to the centers of Polish space research in Warsaw and Gdansk from the Polish Ministry of Economics.

Awards

  • 2017: Alternative media award in the future category for its radio feature cheerful to insurgent .
