Life

In 1967 and 1968 Knut Mellenthin belonged to the group of groups and people from which the KPD / ML emerged a little later . However, Mellenthin no longer took part in the founding of the party on December 31, 1968 because he criticized the approach and timing. In May 1970 he co-founded the Communist Workers' Union Hamburg (KAB), which in 1971 became one of the founding organizations of the Communist Union (KB). From 1973 to 1991 Mellenthin was a member of the management of the KB and was considered one of the leading theoreticians of the organization. When the KB was dissolved in 1991, he was on the side of the “majority”.

Since the first edition of the monthly magazine of the Kommunistische Bund , Arbeiterkampf (later: ak - analyze und kritik ), which appeared in December 1971 , Knut Mellenthin has been a permanent author and chief editor of the team. Even after leaving in 1994, he remained associated with the paper as a freelance author for several years. He is now a long-time employee of the left-wing daily Junge Welt , in which he mainly publishes on geopolitical issues.

Knut Mellenthin was also the author of the Weltbühne from 1990 until the magazine was discontinued in 1993 . From 1991 to 1994 he was also a personal assistant to the PDS Bundestag member Ulla Jelpke on questions of German domestic policy. In the mid-1990s, he wrote extensive studies on the Yugoslav wars and the military operations of the United Nations for the Foreign Policy Working Group of the PDS in the Bundestag .

The main theme of Knut Mellenthin's publications is contemporary international politics. In the 1990s, the collapse of the “socialist camp”, the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the Yugoslav civil war were at the center of his work. Since September 11th, the author has focused primarily on US warfare and strategy in the Near and Middle East. He is represented in several books with texts on this topic.

Knut Mellenthin also works on the history of the Holocaust , National Socialism and Fascism, as well as the Second World War . A day-by-day chronology of the Holocaust that he has compiled and for which he received the Alternative Media Prize in 2007 can be found on the Internet.
