Neco Çelik
Neco Çelik (* 1972 in Berlin ) is a German educator, film and theater director of Turkish descent.
Life
Çelik is the son of Turkish immigrants who came to Germany as guest workers. He grew up in Berlin-Kreuzberg , where he was a member of the youth gang "36er", from which the 36 boys emerged .
As part of his training as an educator, Neco worked in the Kreuzberg youth center "Naunyn Ritze" in 1993 and organized film projects there.
In 1997 Neco Çelik shot the fictional documentation 36 m² of fabric . In 2001 he founded the film production company "36 Pictures". He made the feature films Everyday (2002) and Urban Guerillas (2003), as well as short films. In 2006 he shot the TV documentary Kreuzberger Nights - Young Turks in Berlin , which was broadcast in the series 37 degrees on ZDF. In 2006 he directed his first Turkish-language film with the dramatic comedy Kısık ateşte 15 dakika .
Since 2006, Çelik also directed plays and operas, first Black Virgins of Feridun Zaimoglu and Günter laces on Berlin's HAU , in 2007 then Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet , also at the HAU, in 2008 at the Munich Kammerspiele Xavier Durringers Ausgegrenzt and 2009 Nathan Messiah at Ballhaus Naunynstrasse. In 2011 he took over his first opera direction at Ludger Vollmer's opera after Fatih Akın's film Gegen die Wand at the Stuttgart State Opera . In 2012 he directed Dmitri Shostakovich's musical comedy Moscow-Cheryomushki at the State Opera Unter den Linden . In 2015 he staged his first dance theater piece Ruhm with the dance group "Renegade" in the Schauspielhaus Bochum .
