The 36 boys were a youth gang from Berlin-Kreuzberg .

history

The gang was active in the late 1980s through the mid 1990s. In addition to young people of Turkish and Kurdish origin, other nationalities were also represented in the group of over 100 people. The area in which the gang was active was the area around the Kottbusser Tor to the residential areas between Naunynstrasse and Waldemarstrasse , as well as to the Görlitz train station . The gang has named itself like other gangs z. B. in Neukölln also to the former Berlin Post District Berlin SO 36 . The idea for the name came from Maxim , a co-founder of the Berlin rap scene, who was stabbed to death by a pensioner in 2003. Maxim originally founded the 36 Boys as a hip-hop crew.

In the early 1990s, the group fought turf wars with neo-Nazis and skinheads , some of which were fought in the Jungfernheide park . Other rival gangs were the Warriors from Schlesisches Tor and the Black Panthers from Wedding . During the May riots in Kreuzberg , the 36 boys initially joined the Autonomen , an alliance that did not last long due to the group's lack of political orientation. The 36 boys' graffiti were spread all over Berlin. In Kreuzberg they were also used to mark the area. In addition to the 36 boys, there was the "36 Juniors", who stood out due to their higher potential for violence.

After the dissolution

The Berlin Senate has 2,007 former members of the 36 boys as " neighborhood runners" hired by which in Kreuzberg preventively against youth crime should be taken. The area around Naunynstrasse, in which they have their focus, was designated as a no-go area by the Senate . After the gang broke up, the former members went different ways. Some stayed in the criminal milieu, others like the cook Tim Raue - awarded by Gault-Millau - turned to middle-class careers. Still others got involved socially in neighborhood projects and youth centers. Former member Sinan Tosun has opened a shop near Kottbusser Tor selling clothes with the “36 Boys” logo. Sinan's brother, Muzaffer Tosun , a light welterweight boxer , was also a member of the 36 Boys, as was the rapper Killa Hakan and, in the forerunner group of 36s, the film author and director Neco Çelik .

In the media, the youth gang is described as a prototypical “gang” with a migration background .
