The anti-fascist information, documentation and archive office Munich e. V. (aida) is a non-governmental organization that campaigns against right-wing extremism . The association has been collecting and archiving the activities of the extreme right and anti-fascist work since 1990. This information is processed and made available to the press and the public.

history

The association founded in 1989 was entered in the association register in 1990. The archive, which has been working almost unnoticed for years, and its employees are hostile to the right-wing extremist scene in Bavaria. On June 13, 2008, the neo-Nazi “ Free Nationalists Munich” headed by Philipp Hasselbach took place under the motto “ Recognize left-wing extremist structures - ban aida archive! “In July 2008 an aida employee documented the laying down of a swastika flag at the funeral of Friedhelm Busses and was severely beaten.

The association received greater media attention from 2008 onwards. At the instigation of the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior , the Ministry of Culture issued the instruction to exclude aida from the Bavarian State Youth Association , which centrally coordinates the federal program Competent for Democracy , without giving any reason . The initiator of the exclusion was the Bavarian Office for the Protection of the Constitution . In order to justify the exclusion, it was included in the constitution protection report for 2008 in March 2009 in the newly created category “Other left-wing extremists”. In the speech on the occasion of the presentation of the Bavarian Constitutional Protection Report 2008, the Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said: “ Aida in particular is trying to gain a foothold in democratically initiated projects against right-wing extremism and to gain influence here. “The Bayerische Jugendring, the Jusos , the Lichterkette eV, the Kreisjugendring München, the Ausländerbeirat and the Jugendamt in Munich then showed solidarity with the association, which has won several awards for its work . The SPD and the Greens made unsuccessful urgency motions in the state parliament to withdraw the assessment. Hermann fended off criticism in the Interior Committee with the words: "This is a report and not a fantasy novel" .

In January 2010, aida was revoked its non-profit status because it was mentioned in the report for the protection of the constitution . " Aida must therefore continue to watch, almost powerless, as the state gradually not only damages the reputation of the organization, but also endangers its existence, " wrote the Süddeutsche Zeitung . On September 23, 2010, the Bavarian Administrative Court (VGH) ordered the blackening of the passages in the 2008 report because the " label-like [] designation" left-wing extremist " " is a " negative judgment not even rudimentarily supported by actual evidence " and " [d] ie (intended) consequence […] the political and social isolation ”. In December 2010, the federal government referred to the discretion of the Free State of whether the archive should be excluded from the Bavarian advisory network due to the entry in the Bavarian Constitutional Protection Report and what consequences the court order might have.

In March 2010, as in previous years, aida was listed in the Office for the Protection of the Constitution report for 2009. These passages had to be blacked out in May 2011 due to the order of the Munich Administrative Court (VG). The same order was issued on October 28, 2011 for mentioning it in the report for 2010. The VG found, however, that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution could continue to call aida extremist .

The association was mentioned again in the report for the protection of the constitution for 2011. In October 2012 , aida and the Ministry of the Interior compared in proceedings before the superordinate VGH that the classification of aida as "left-wing extremist" would be withdrawn retrospectively and would no longer be mentioned in the report for the protection of the constitution. At the hearing, the court indicated that the Ministry of the Interior would not have succeeded in its argument. It " had serious doubts about the correctness " of the VG decision.

From 1990 the archive collected material on right-wing extremist, racist or nationalist activities in Bavaria. The archive is publicized through lectures, training courses, its own website and press releases. The association is one of the nation's most extensive archives on the topic and is considered a competent and serious provider of information on the right-wing extremist scene in Bavaria. Archive documents can be viewed at the “Specialized Information Center against Right-Wing Extremism Munich (FIRM)” . The knowledge gained is often taken up in the media and political education. The constitutional protection authorities also use the documents.

The association is financed through donations. In July 2015, the mayor of Munich, Dieter Reiter , informed the AfD city ​​councilors at the time that the archive was not receiving any subsidies from the city.
