from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lutz Frühbrodt (* 1962 in Berlin ) is a German publicist and media critic . He teaches as a professor for specialist journalism and corporate communication at the University of Würzburg-Schweinfurt .

Career

Frühbrodt studied American Studies, New History, Journalism and Political Science at the Free University of Berlin and Indiana University (Bloomington / USA). He was a research associate in the field of economic policy at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies in Berlin and received his doctorate in economics in 2000 with a thesis on the international deregulation of the telecommunications markets.

Frühbrodt completed an editorial traineeship at DeutschlandRadio Kultur. Before and alongside his scientific work, Frühbrodt worked as a journalist for various national newspapers and radio stations. For several years, Frühbrodt reported as a business and technology reporter for the Welt-Gruppe from Berlin, Stuttgart and Frankfurt / Main. He was one of ten journalists from national media who were spied on by Deutsche Telekom in 2005 and 2006.

In 2008, Frühbrodt was appointed professor at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt in order to set up the master's degree in “Specialized Journalism and Corporate Communication”.

Act

Frühbrodt primarily publishes on business journalism, specialist media, alternative economic models and the impact of the media on society. He is co-founder and chairman of the non-profit association “The Second Enlightenment”, which is active in the field of media criticism (www.zweite-aufklaerung.de). Frühbrodt considers education about social grievances to be the most important, but often neglected, task of journalism and calls for greater autonomy for the media from commercial exploitation interests.

In his handbook “Business Journalism” (2007), Frühbrodt calls on journalists to deal more critically with the often mechanistic logic of classical, market-liberal economic theory and to analyze economic events and developments more independently. Company reporters should also give up the pure company perspective and pay more attention to the effects of company policy on consumers and society (see under Works: “On the way to holistic business journalism”). Frühbrodt is a member of several juries for journalist awards. He is the chairman of the jury for the Specialist Journalist of the Year award .
