The topics covered are, for example, surreptitious advertising , “locked up journalists”, “media fuel exaggerated fears” or “women in the TV business”. The long-time Panorama boss Kuno Haberbusch was editor-in-chief at Zapp until summer 2009. Then the NDR journalist Steffen Eßbach headed the department for five years. Journalist Annette Leiterer has been editor-in-chief since February 2016. The current team composition can be viewed on the Zapp website.

Zapp is broadcast on Wednesdays from 11:20 p.m. to 11:50 p.m. on NDR and is repeated on 3sat , tagesschau24 and One . The program started on April 14, 2002 and was initially moderated by Gerhard Delling . From March 9, 2003 to November 2005, Caren Miosga hosted the show. During her parental leave, the program was initially moderated by Inka Schneider and Anja Reschke , then mainly by Schneider, who announced her departure from Zapp in the program on December 16, 2016.

On August 8, 2019, it was announced that Anja Reschke will hand over the moderation to Kathrin Drehkopf and Johannes Jolmes, who will in future moderate the show alternately with Schreiber.
