Bachelor of Business Administration

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) is an academic degree that can be obtained mainly in Anglo - American education systems through a degree in business administration after three or mostly four years of full-time study. In Germany, the BBA leads to a first professional qualification. In semesters abroad, the BBA is often awarded as a double degree with another bachelor's degree .

Course content

Conveys both the technical skills in business and related fields as well as analytical, methodical and social skills.

At the beginning of the BBA courses, as in other business economics courses, the basics are primarily taught in the areas of bookkeeping , accounting , business administration, economics , marketing , finance, controlling , human resources management and law including tax law .

The subsequent part of the BBA course, which usually comprises several semesters, is, on the other hand, strongly action-oriented. This part of the course therefore consists largely or even exclusively of seminars and sometimes extensive project work, which very often has to be worked on in groups over a longer period (often a few months). Real existing business problems in companies or markets are dealt with and concluded with a written paper and often an additional oral examination in the form of a colloquium or a presentation .

Differentiation from other Bachelor programs

The Bachelor of Business Administration has the same status as the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts , but is even more application-oriented (see course content). In addition to imparting scientific fundamentals and methodological knowledge, the aim of the study is to acquire practical qualifications for various fields of activity and professional fields in business administration and management. Compared to scientifically oriented business administration or economics courses, which usually end with a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts , the BBA provides comprehensive skills for all economic and administrative areas of responsibility for which modern business tools are required.

Courses leading to a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree are completed with a Bachelor thesis, a scientific thesis. Due to the strong application-oriented orientation, on the other hand, many BBA courses of study are completed without one or the thesis consists of a project or practical study. The final aim of the study and project work is often the development of recommendations for action by the students (for example: How can an imminent bankruptcy of a company be avoided?).

In Germany, the Bachelor of Business Administration is mostly awarded by private universities that cooperate with foreign universities, since according to a resolution of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, German universities are not allowed to award a BBA. Some state universities offer bachelor's degree programs called Business Administration or Bachelor of Business Administration , but still award a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts as an academic degree .

Differentiation from the Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Just like the Master of Business Administration (MBA), the BBA is generally generalist, management-oriented and internationally oriented (see FIBAA or AACSB accreditation criteria for MBA courses). Some universities deviate from this, as is the case with many MBA courses, and offer the BBA with strong specializations, for example in marketing or logistics. As with the MBA, BBA courses are often entirely or partially conducted entirely in English. That is why most providers require certain minimum scores for English tests (for example TOEFL , TOEIC ).

In contrast to the MBA, the skills and problems of middle instead of upper management are usually recorded, analyzed and processed. Furthermore, as a rule, no university degree or professional experience is required for the BBA, so business aptitude tests such as the GMAT usual for the MBA are dispensed with.
