Gui Bonsiepe

Gui Bonsiepe [ˈgɪː ˈbo˘nsɪːpe˘] (born March 23, 1934 in Glücksburg ) is a German designer and design theorist .

Life

Bonsiepe studied graphics and architecture at the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and at the Technical University of Munich until 1955 . He then began studying at the Ulm School of Design ( HfG ) and learned design theory from Tomás Maldonado . He passed his diploma in 1959.

From 1960 to 1968 he was active in teaching and research at the HfG. From 1968 he worked as a freelancer and design consultant in Latin America ( Chile , Argentina , Brazil ). From 1970 to 1973 he headed a team that developed the interface design of the transaction space of the Cybersyn project. From 1987 to 1989 Gui Bonsiepe worked for a software company in Emeryville , USA , where he focused on interface design.

Between 1993 and 2003, Gui Bonsiepe was Professor of Interface Design in the Design Department at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences (renamed the Cologne International School of Design , KISD in 2003 ). He was also a lecturer in integrated media at the Escola Superior de Desenho Industrial (ESDI), Universidade do Estado de Rio de Janeiro . He lives in La Plata near Buenos Aires and in Florianópolis , on the Brazilian island of Santa Catarina .

His writings are among the standard works of design theory. In the work »Digital World and Design«, published in 2007, he translated texts by his teacher Tomás Maldonado from Italian and Spanish into German. In 2009 a collection of selected writings was published under the title »Design Culture and Society«.
