The Laveggio is a river around 11 kilometers long in the Italian province of Varese and in the Swiss canton of Ticino . It drains part of the Mendrisiotto south of Lugano and flows into Lake Lugano at Riva San Vitale .

The Laveggio rises from a small pond at 418  m above sea level. M. in the municipality of Clivio in Italy. After less than 100 meters, it crosses the state border with Switzerland and now flows through the municipality of Stabio . Initially it mostly flows southeast through the southwest part of Stabio. At Palazzetta a small stream flows from the right, with the Laveggio at the same time bending to the northeast. It passes the industrial area of ​​Stabio and briefly forms the municipal boundary to Mendrisio , before crossing it completely and now delimiting the urban quarters of Ligornetto and Genestrerio and then Rancate .

It flows through Rancate and Mendrisio, where the Moree flows to it. Shortly afterwards it forms the municipal boundary between Mendrisio and Riva San Vitale, before it runs completely into the latter municipality. Here the river finally flows out at 271  m above sea level. M. in Lake Lugano.
