Uboldo is a municipality ( comune ) in the province of Varese in Lombardy .

geography

The municipality is located about 21 kilometers northwest of Milan about 25 kilometers southeast of Varese and borders directly on the metropolitan city of Milan and covers an area of ​​10.6  km² . The neighboring municipalities are Cerro Maggiore (MI), Gerenzano , Origgio , Rescaldina (MI) and Saronno .

history

The church can trace its origins back to the fourth century AD. In the Middle Ages it was the seat of one of the two main branches of the Crivelli family, direct descendants of the Sanbonifacio of Verona ; the other branch was the Crivelli De Parabiago , they were one of the most powerful noble families of the Marca di Lombardia ; originally Franconian , they have been recorded in the properties of the Archdiocese of Milan since 377 AD .

Uboldo is on the A9 autostrada from Milan towards Chiasso (Switzerland) or Lake Como . The municipality is also crossed in a west-east direction by the former Strada Statale 527 Bustese (today: Provincial Road). The next train station is in Saronno or Gerenzano .

  • Palio di Uboldo. The parish is divided into four quarters: Bell , in whose coat of arms is the Church of Saints Peter and Paul (yellow); Lazzarett , which stands near the old chapel of Lazzaretto, where those suffering from the plague stayed during the great epidemic of 600 (green); San Cosma , which takes its name from the 13th century Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian (white); Taron , which stands on the road that connects Uboldo to Cerro Maggiore (red). Every year, between the first and second week of June, the Palio delle contrade takes place.
