Pipers Stones
The Pipers Stones (also Athgreany stone Circle or Piper's Stones , Irish Clocha an Phíobaire ) of Athgreany are a Bronze Age stone circle on a low hill - overlooking the N81 (road) from Blessington to Tullow - about 1.5 km south of the village of Hollywood in County Wicklow in Ireland . The district is a national monument and is located on the edge of a small hill in the middle of higher terrain. The field is known as "Achadh Greine". In the old Irish mythology "Grainne" was the goddess of fertility. A famous double-fluted hawthorn ( Crataegus oxyacantha ) stands near the Piper Stones. It is one of the sacred trees and is associated with Beltane .
The name "The Pipers Stones" is derived from the well-known tradition (e.g. The Pipers in Cornwall ) that people who met to dance on a Sunday were turned into stones. The outlier ( English outlier ) in the northeast of Pfeifer should be. In the past, attempts have been made to remove the circle, removing 13 stones and moving most of the 16 remaining gray granite stones up to two meters high . 13 stones are standing, three are lying. Only five are in situ and show the original diameter of 23 m. The access to the circle is marked by a pair of stones in the northeast, pointing in the direction of the Piper 40 m northeast.
