Tullow ( Irish : An Tulach; German: "The Hill") is a country town in County Carlow in the southeast of the Republic of Ireland .

Tullow is about 20 km (as the crow flies) east of Carlow Town on the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains on the River Slaney . The population of Tullow was determined in the 2016 Census at 4673 people, which means that the population has almost doubled since 1996.

The city is on the N81 from Dublin via Blessington and Baltinglass to Bunclody and on (on the N80) to Enniscorthy . With Gorey on the N11 on the Irish east coast Tullow is connected through regional roads. The place is no longer connected to the rail traffic in Ireland .

The portal Tomb of Ballynoe ( Irish An Baile Nua - also called Newtown) is about 4 km south of Tullow.
