Gorey ( Irish : Guaire ) is a town in County Wexford in the southeast of the Republic of Ireland .

Gorey is located in the north of County Wexford about six kilometers from the east coast of Ireland between Arklow in the north and Enniscorthy in the south on the N11 from Dublin to Wexford .

By Iarnród Éireann Gorey is both by Intercity on the Dublin - Rosslare and the South Eastern Commuter connected by Iarnród Éireann. In addition to several regional bus companies, Bus Éireann Gorey connects on the one hand with Busáras in Dublin and with Waterford and on the other hand with a day and night service with Dublin Airport and Rosslare Harbor .

Due to its location on the N11, which connects it to the outskirts of Dublin in an hour, Gorey has become an interesting place to live for commuters, which has led to a strong population increase, particularly since the mid-1990s; In the 2016 Census , the population of Gorey was determined to be 9822 people.

The politician and 1974 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Seán MacBride (1904–1988) attended Mount St. Benedict School in Gorey ; the writer Diarmaid Ó Súilleabháin (1932–1985) was a teacher at the “Christian Brothers School” in Gorey.
