Willi Winkler (Author)
Willi Winkler (* 1957 in Sittenbach ) is a German journalist , translator, author and literary critic for the Süddeutsche Zeitung .
Career
Willi Winkler studied in Munich and St. Louis (USA) and translated books by John Updike , Anthony Burgess and Saul Bellow into German, among others . He was editor at Die Zeit , head of culture at Spiegel and today (as of 2012) he writes book reviews, glosses , film reviews and critical commentaries in the features section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung in particular . Willi Winkler is a Catholic.
2007 and 2011 he laid fiction books on the far left and on the Arab - nationalist terrorism of the 1970s and 1980s before - one about the Red Army Faction and one on the businessman and terror financier François Genoud .

Awards
In 1998 Willi Winkler received the Ben Witter Prize , and in 2010 the Otto Brenner “Special” Prize, which is awarded for the best analysis in an editorial, commentary or essay and is endowed with 10,000 euros.
In 2012 he was awarded the Journalist Prize of the German Anglists' Association for his literary translations by authors such as Julian Barnes , Anthony Burgess and John Updike .
In 2013 Winkler was awarded the Michael Althen Prize for his article Antichrist about the writer Karlheinz Deschner .
