Hermann Dörries

Hermann Dörries (born July 17, 1895 in Hanover , † November 2, 1977 in Göttingen ) was a church historian and patrologist in Göttingen .

Life

Hermann Dörries, the son of the theologian Georg Bernhard Adolf Dörries (1856-1934), was a student of Adolf Jülicher and Karl Müller and received his doctorate in 1922 at the Philipps University of Marburg . The habilitation in church history took place in Tübingen in 1923 . At the same time he began to teach there as a private lecturer. In 1926 he took over an extraordinary professorship for church history in Tübingen. In 1928 he followed a call to Halle . Dörries lived and taught in Göttingen from 1929 until his retirement as a full professor. On May 1, 1933, he was the NSDAP ( membership number2,372,330). In 1941 he was elected a full member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences .

Dörries and his colleagues sifted through and collected the writings of Makarios / Symeon ; his opinion that a certain Symeon from Mesopotamia is the author of the Makarios homilies has largely prevailed.
