Makarios
Makarios (from Greek Μακάριος , the lucky one, the wealthy one, also Makarius and other variants) is the name of the following people:
- Macarius of Antioch , Patriarch of Antioch in the 7th century (until 681)
- Makarios I of Jerusalem , Bishop of Jerusalem in the 4th century, who is credited with finding the cross and the tomb of Christ
- Macarius of Corinth ( Notaras , 1731–1805), Greek bishop
- Makarios Magnes , name (or pseudonym) of the author of the Apokritikos books, an ancient philosopher's contest around AD 400 in Alexandria
- Makarios the Egyptians (the Elder), hermit in the Sketian Desert (south of the Egyptian port city of Alexandria)
- Macarius of Alexandria (the younger), hermit, later abbot in the Sketian desert
- Makarios von Tkow , Coptic monk and bishop of Tkow (Greek: Antaioupolis, Arabic: Qaw al-Kabir)
- Makarios of Pelekete , abbot of the Monastery of St. John theologians in Pelekete
