Texts and studies on the history of early Christian literature
Texts and Studies on the History of Early Christian Literature , or Texts and Studies for short (abbreviated to TU ), is the name of a scientific series of publications on church history that was founded in 1882 by Adolf Harnack together with Oscar von Gebhardt .
The first volume appeared in 1883. TU, number of the volume is quoted, the issue with a comma, e.g. B. TU 12, 2 for the second issue of the twelfth volume. Initially, delivery usually took place in around four booklets a year, which together form a volume. The number of publications increased at the turn of the 20th century, so that in some cases several volumes appeared next to each other at the same time. Some works initially appeared as independent publications, but were later included in this series, so that individual contributions have a publication year different from the volume. The individual contributions vary in length from short articles to the size of monographs with their own registers and appendices, so that one can sometimes speak of a monograph series. The second episode supported the publication of the results of the research of the Church Fathers Commission, which Harnack chaired.
The editions from 1883 to 1941 were published by the Hinrichs publishing house in Leipzig, partly also by the Prussian Academy of Sciences in Berlin, and since 1942 by the De Gruyter publishing house .
