Theodor Franz Joseph Schermann

Theodor Franz Joseph Schermann (born January 19, 1878 in Ellwangen , † June 22, 1922 in Rottweil ) was a German Catholic theologian and church historian .

Schermann studied Catholic theology, philology and philosophy in Vienna and Munich from 1896 to 1899 . Subsequently, he worked as a consultant for popular training at the Amalien- und Schwindschule. He was ordained a priest on July 12, 1900 . The following year he received his doctorate with a thesis on the deity of the Holy Spirit as understood by the Greek Fathers of the fourth century. Church history and archaeological studies took him to Paris, Rome and Naples. In 1905 he received his habilitation in church history ( patrology ) at the University of Munich. He worked there as a private lecturer from 1905 , and from 1910 as an associate professor for church history and Christian archeology . In 1918 he left the Catholic Church and received his doctorate in the same year. phil. In 1919 he lost his professorship.
