Martin Safe
Martin Sicherheitsl (born December 14, 1914 in Mirschowitz / Bohemia; † October 11, 2009 in Münster in Westphalia ) was a German classical philologist and researcher on humanism .
Life
Surely studied Classical Philology at the German University in Prague . In 1937 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on Greek magic papyri under Maximilian Adler . This work earned him an annual scholarship in Rome for 1937/38, where Sicherheitsl began to deal with his later main field of work, the research of Greek and Latin manuscripts.
After the Second World War , he continued his work at the University of Mainz from 1950 . In 1955 he completed his habilitation here on the manuscripts, editions and translations of Iamblichos De mysteriis .
In 1963 he was appointed full professor for Greek at the Institute for Classical Studies at the University of Münster , which later became the Institute for Classical Philology. He held this office until his retirement in 1982.
Certainly died on the night of October 10th to 11th, 2009 at the age of 94.
