Adolf Koehnken

Adolf Köhnken (born January 28, 1938 in Buxtehude ; † August 5, 2017 ) was a German classical philologist .

Adolf Köhnken studied classical philology at the University of Hamburg and received his doctorate in 1963 . His academic teacher was Hartmut Erbse . His dissertation on the Hellenistic poets Apollonios of Rhodes and Theocrites was published in 1965 in the Hypomnemata series . Investigations into antiquity and their afterlife . From 1966 to 1967 Köhnken worked as a research assistant at the Technical University of Berlin .

1969 Köhnken went as a research assistant at the University of Bonn , where he met with the Scriptures and in 1970 the function of myth in Pindar habilitated . In 1971 he was appointed adjunct professor, in 1973 as a university lecturer, and in 1980 as a professor. In 1982 he was visiting professor at Harvard University . In the winter semester 1992/93 Köhnken accepted a position at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster , where he worked until his retirement (2003).

Köhnken was co-editor of the magazine Hermes and the series of texts and comments . His main research interests were Greek poetry, especially poetry, epic poetry, Hellenistic poetry and Greco-Roman historiography. He also dealt with storytelling techniques, ancient literary criticism and Greek drama. Köhnken was a member of the Görres Society .
