Edgar Hennecke

Edgar Ludwig Theodor Hennecke (born April 13, 1865 in Osterode am Harz , † March 25, 1951 in Göttingen ) was a German Protestant pastor and theologian. He was the father of the literary critic and translator Hans Hennecke .

Life

Edgar Hennecke studied Protestant theology and philology at the universities of Leipzig, Tübingen and Göttingen since 1883. In 1887 he passed the 1st theological exam. Then he went to Berlin for further studies, where he a. a. studied with Adolf Harnack . Here he obtained his theological license in 1892 (= Dr. theol.), In 1895 he received his doctorate at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Leipzig with a thesis supervised by Albert Hauck . From 1895 to 1935 he was pastor in Betheln (near Hildesheim ). He founded the edition of the New Testament Apocrypha in German translation , the later editing and new edition of which was taken over by Wilhelm Schneemelcher .
