Otto Bauernfeind

Otto Georg Heinrich Bauernfeind (born January 14, 1889 in Behrenhoff , † December 26, 1972 in Tübingen ) was a German Protestant theologian. He was best known for his writings on the Acts of the Apostles and on Josephus .

Life

Otto Bauernfeind studied Protestant theology at the universities of Tübingen , Marburg , Berlin and Greifswald . In 1914 he was a war volunteer. In 1915 he was at the University of Greifswald for licentiate Protestant theology doctorate and later ordained . From 1916 to 1920 he was active as a naval pastor . After his habilitation in 1922 he was a private lecturer in Greifswald. There he was from 1928 to 1931 associate professor of Protestant theology. In 1929 he took on a substitute professorship at the University of Kiel . In 1931 he became an associate professor at the University of Tübingen . Since he was hostile to National Socialism and was involved in the Confessing Church , his academic license to teach was revoked in 1939. From 1939 to 1947 he was a deputy hospital pastor in Württemberg . In 1945 it was restituted. From 1946 until his retirement in 1957 he was a full professor for the New Testament in Tübingen.
