Wilhelm Mons

Wilhelm Mons (born April 26, 1938 in Schweinfurt ) is a German mathematician , lecturer at the University of Fulda and former football player of the FSV Frankfurt .

Career

Wilhelm Mons was active in sports for the 1964/65 football season at the age of 27 in what was then the Regionalliga Süd - the second league founded in 1963 - and played for FSV Frankfurt . He played a game against FC Bayern Munich , which was also second-rate at the time , in which he contributed a goal to the 2-1 success before he devoted himself to further training in science.

His academic career began Mons with the study of mineralogy and crystallography at the universities in Würzburg and Darmstadt . After completing his doctorate, he worked as a research assistant at the Research Institute for Precious Metals and Metal Chemistry in Schwäbisch Gmünd , whereupon he worked for several years as a teacher at a grammar school in chemistry and physics .

Mons also completed his diploma in mathematics at the Fernuniversität Hagen . Until 2003, he was department head at the adult education center in the Fulda district for school-leaving qualifications and natural sciences for 23 years . Since his retirement in 2003, he has been a lecturer in mathematics in the electrical engineering and information technology department at the University of Fulda .

The mathematician with a doctorate is head of the Konrad-Zuse-Department of the Konrad-Zuse-Museum in Hünfeld , in whose design he played a key role. Mons was honored on the occasion of his 70th birthday in 2008 for his long-term commitment there. Together with the editors Helmut Engel and Horst Zuse - the son of Konrad Zuse - he published the book Konrad Zuse: Heroes without a sword in the same year .
