The Bananafishbones are a German band from Bad Tölz in Upper Bavaria, founded in 1987 . Her best-known hits include songs like Easy Day , Come to Sin or I Like a Lot .

history

In 1987 Sebastian Horn (born December 2, 1970), Florian Rein (born February 27, 1971) and Thomas Dill founded the band and named themselves after the title Bananafishbones by The Cure , which can be found on the album The Top (1984), which got its name after the short story A Perfect Day for Bananafish by Jerome D. Salinger .

After the guitarist Thomas Dill, called Toi, had to quit because of a stay abroad, Sebastian's brother Peter Horn jr. (Born August 26, 1961). After first appearances at the Tölzer Gymnasium and in the town's evangelical parish hall, the trio soon won a band competition in neighboring Wolfratshausen and made their name as one of the best live bands in the region with numerous live performances in the clubs and on the stages of the Bavarian Oberland (Süddeutsche Zeitung) .

In 1995 their first album Gray Test Hits was released (in self-production) . One year later, Easy Day was released , an award-winning mini-thriller filmed by Sebastian's brother Hans Horn, filmed between Sylvensteinsee , Upper Bavaria, and Eng , Austria, in which Franka Potente plays one of the leading roles. The accompanying soundtrack was released 3 years later as an Easy Day EP . The Bananafishbones became known throughout Germany in 1998 when their single Come to Sin was used in a C&A commercial.

They wore songs to the soundtracks of some German film productions with, for example, three Chinese with the contrabass ( What an Ending exclusively for the soundtrack), to the acid test ( Pow Wow from the album A Town Called Seven and a cover version of Talking Heads - Hits Road to Nowhere as a single) or Who dies earlier is dead longer . In the film series Die Wilden Kerle they are responsible for large parts of the soundtrack, as well as in the film Tödlicheverbindungen , in which they also played small guest roles. In 2007, she played for The Three Robbers the Räuberlied one.

The three are influenced by bands such as Ween , Cake , Eels , Barenaked Ladies or Talking Heads , as well as by artists such as Elliott Smith , Woody Guthrie , Johnny Cash or Robert Palmer , and they have a live presence rarely experienced in Germany (around 120 concerts in the year) on the day.

In addition, the band organized the annual Hillside Festival music festival in Bad Tölz from 2001 onwards . In 2006 they played a big free concert in the historic Marktstrasse.

Florian Rein and Sebastian Horn are also members of the band The Heimatdamisch, who follow Global Kryner to cover well-known hits from rock and pop in the Oberkrainer style. The debut album Highway to Oberkrain was released in 2015, the follow-up album Circus Oberkrain in 2019.
