occupation

Little Paris is a German feature film from 2008 that was directed by Miriam Dehne . The coming-of-age film focuses on the interface between the dream world and reality based on the dancer career of a young woman who grew up and lives in a small town in Baden-Württemberg . The term small town was deliberately kept general, as the action should not be assigned to a specific region but could take place anywhere. The shooting locations for this were Crailsheim and Satteldorf in the Baden-Württemberg-Bavarian border area. A replica of the Eiffel Tower on an industrial building in Satteldorf gave its name to the film.

The first version of the script, which was inspired by a TV documentary about everyday dramas by go -go girls living in small towns , was made in 2001/2002. The film premiered in Germany on May 2, 2008 at the Filmkunstfest in Schwerin and had its international premiere on June 16, 2008 at the Shanghai International Film Festival . It was shown on November 5, 2008 at the Braunschweig Film Festival and on January 23, 2009 at the 44th  Solothurn Film Festival . In December 2008 it appeared in cinemas nationwide.

action

Baden-Württemberg 2007. Thanks to the Eiffel Tower replica on the roof of the local factory, the small town is also called "Little Paris". 23-year-old Luna works in the factory. After her mother dies, she grows up with her unconventional aunt Pat. Luna also gives children voluntary dance lessons and dreams of a career as a dancer. A dance competition, in which an engagement in a music video can be won, brings “metropolitan” dancers and dance styles to the small town. Luna gets to know the passing dancer  G, her future trainer. G motivates them to take part in the competition and fundamentally change their lives. Luna separates from her boyfriend Ron, from her home and family, Aunt Pat and Luna's friends Eve and Barbie. She leaves "Little Paris" and is associated with G to Berlin . There she takes part in the final of the dance competition, which she loses. Luna's Walk of Fame ends in New York .
Luna unites the interface between dream world and reality by realizing her dream of a dancer career. Her friend Eve succeeds in this act by renouncing the temptation that G and the competition bring into her structured life and by accepting to lead a small-town, "simple" family life with Stefan. Their mutual friend Barbie, who works in a swingers club in the evening and in an ice cream parlor during the day, is the tragic character of the film. Barbie, who can neither realize her wish to lead a life with her great love Wassily, nor accept reality, commits suicide .

criticism

“What looks like a mixture of a Pedro Almodóvar dream and Oskar Roehler hell turns out to be a bitter-sweet fairy tale drama about a young woman who dreams of the big wide world and dares to leap into the unknown. “ Film echo / film week

“The wonderfully enraptured photos play with that small-town sadness that one associates with the barren aesthetics of the Berlin school. In addition, however, there are settings that are more reminiscent of Sofia Coppola's tart-heavy cinema operetta “Marie Antoinette”. German film dares too seldom such style breaks between disco glitter and melancholy. ” Der Spiegel

“Weltschmerz in Pink: Emancipation is portrayed in a new, wild and naive way. Miriam Dehne surpasses many young German filmmakers - because she searches for magical moments against convention and good taste. In the end, you will have a great cinema. ” Süddeutsche Zeitung

“'Little Paris' is an imaginative, lively dance and coming-of-age film, working unrestrainedly with kitsch, cliché and pathos, unconcerned about embarrassment or conventions. Always surprising and touching, realistic and at the same time constructed, relaxed and yet dynamic, sometimes melodramatic, sometimes authentic, just as compassionate as relentless ... That is as brave as it is naive - and at the same time quite truthful. " Berliner Zeitung

“The gently surreal atmosphere of the film is worth seeing. Again and again the director succeeds in creating poetic scenes like the one in the Flamingo Bar with Barbie as an angelic slut in a fetish dress. ” Epd film
