The Lise-Meitner-Gymnasium Unterhaching (LMGU) is a state high school in Unterhaching , which gained national fame mainly as a film set .

history

The Unterhaching grammar school was founded in 1972 and relocated to the current building in 1975. At the beginning, three teachers together with temporary staff and trainees taught 144 students in four parallel classes.

The grammar school offers a scientific-technological and a linguistic branch in the bound and open all-day school operation. It was named on October 21, 2005 after the Austrian-Swedish nuclear physicist Lise Meitner .

The school is a member of the LMG network, the Association of Mathematical and Scientific Excellence Centers in Schools (MINT-EC) and the State Lise Meitner Gymnasium. After the grammar school was renamed, the “Freundeskreis Gymnasium Unterhaching e. V. “newly founded.

Michaela Trinder has been the school principal since February 2020. Her predecessor Brigitte Grams-Loibl worked as a teacher at the LMGU for 16 years and switched to a position as ministerial representative.

The school as a film set

The school has already been used several times as a backdrop for filming, including for the films Schule and Die Wolke , but also for the Fack-ju-Göhte film series .

Competitive successes

Sport:
The volleyball player Michaela Eckl reached the national finals " Youth trains for the Olympics " twice with the school team of the high school . In the 2013/2014 school year, the LMGU presented a 1st national winner in the category of apparatus gymnastics, WK IV boys in the “Youth trains for the Olympics”.

In the district decision of Upper Bavaria , the girls from the LMGU won the title on the equipment lift with horizontal bar, floor and jump in 2014 and 2015, and in 2015 also on the equipment lift with shadow rolls and shadow crouching and partner exercises.

Talent and research competitions:
At the end of the 2014/2015 school year, the biology and chemistry teacher Stefanie Frisch received one of the ten teacher prizes awarded by the Helmholtz Association for project support at “ Jugend forscht ”.

In 2015, two teams from the school won prizes in the Infineon student talent competition Chips @ School . The first prize went to the “E-Letter Box” project (Florian Baader, Stephan Le and Jakob Unger), the second place to the “Pilly Milly” robot project (Dominik Doll, Natalie Doll and Sophie Kunte). In 2016 Benedikt Kaesen received the first prize for the “StoveWatchDog” project and the second prize for the “Stand-Bye” project from Florian Baader, Stephan Le and Matthias Weirich.

At the “Jugend forscht” competition, Benedikt Kaesen won first prize for the “Acc-Helm” project at state level in the “Students experiment” category.

2013 LMGU received the Bavarian Traffic Safety Award of the Road Patrol Bavaria.

The caretaker's cause

The high school became famous in 2015 after the dismissal of the caretaker, which led to demonstrations by the students during the lessons.

The school building was built according to the designs of the Munich-based Betz Architekten planning company . Betz Architects Planning Company was commissioned to plan the extension, which was completed in October 2006, with an auditorium, dining room, open-air stage, music and drawing rooms and 28 additional classrooms and specialist rooms.

Others

In 2013 the high school operated a school radio under the supervision of Kornelia Bohn. The school not only served as a film set, but also actively promotes young filmmakers.
