Mathematical and natural science high school

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mathematical-scientific grammar school or the scientific-technological grammar school is a grammar school in Germany in which the focus of education is on the natural sciences of physics , chemistry and, in some cases, biology . In addition, computer science is often offered as a subject. In addition, two foreign languages are taught, mostly English with Latin or French . In addition to the natural sciences, many grammar schools also offer a modern language branch . In some countries , a specialization in the natural sciences is possible at the grammar school, but the grammar school is not named accordingly.

history

The basic idea of the mathematical and scientific high school goes back to the first secondary schools , which the Pietist Johann Julius Hecker founded in Berlin in 1747. Oberrealschulen were later established , whose graduates were allowed to study mathematics, natural sciences and new languages for higher education at Realschulen. After the June 1900 conference, this restriction on subjects no longer applies (except for theology). Due to the Hamburg Agreement , all German secondary schools had to be renamed "Gymnasien" by 1965.

In Austria, a grammar school with a focus on natural science subjects is called a Realgymnasium .
