occupation

Die Weibchen is a German-French-Italian film drama with horror elements by Zbyněk Brynych from 1970. The international female cast is led by Uschi Glas , Pascale Petit , Françoise Fabian and Irina Demick .

action

The attractive 24-year-old Eve is exhausted and close to a nervous breakdown. On the advice of her doctor, she travels to Bad Marein for a six-week cure, where women in particular, consistently “selected patients” like the taxi driver Eve, from all over the world come to the sanatorium of Dr. Barbara relax and regenerate. There are only a few men on site, such as the gigantic, toothless gardener Adam, who is disfigured by a long scar on his face. One day Eve realizes with horror that the female spa guests only use the gentlemen present for their sexual adventures, in order to kill them like a praying mantis or black widow after the act of love.

Eve's horror trip begins when one day she discovers a man with a knife in his back in a closet who was part of a group of three rather sleazy wannabe playboys passing through. From then on, like a detective, she wants to get to the bottom of the most strange events in this eerie place and warn the remaining unsuspecting gentlemen about the "male-devouring" females, but one does not believe her. Even when the police arrive in the form of a rather laconic and regularly drunk commissioner who takes on the murders with only moderate commitment ("I have three murders every day, you have to wait your turn"), things do not change. In the course of the plot it just seems as if the emancipation destroyed everything feminine among the Kurdish women and instead created the beast in women ...

Production notes

The female was created in the Czech Franzensbad (exterior shots) and Munich (studio scenes). The film premiered on December 22, 1970 in Germany.

Erwin Gitt was in charge of production, the film construction came from Wolf Englert and Bruno Monden . Sigi Rothemund assisted director Brynych, Inge Ege-Grützner was responsible for the costumes, Milan Bor for the sound. Charly Steinberger took many recordings from unusual camera perspectives (preferably from the fisheye camera perspective).

Uschi Glas was pleased that she was able to embody a new type of woman for the first time in this film and play a "beautiful change". At the same time, she regretted that the film never became a huge success.
