Milan Bor
Milan Bor (* 1936 in Prague ; † May 14, 1998 in Munich ) was a sound engineer of Czech origin for film and television in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Bor began his cinematic career at the age of 18 in subordinate functions in the local Barrandov Studios . As a result of the crackdown on the Prague Spring , he fled to the Federal Republic in 1968 and finally settled in Munich. His first work as a sound engineer with sole responsibility included several operetta adaptations that were produced for television ( ZDF ) in 1974/75 . Immediately afterwards, Bor made his first contact with young film circles and set the tone at Hans W. Geißendörfer's Sternsteinhof .
In the period that followed, other representatives of the New German Film also brought Boron for their productions, above all Rainer Werner Fassbinder , and had him produce the sound or the sound mix for their work. In the winter of 1976/77, Milan Bor set the tone for Wim Wenders ' The American Friend , and in 1979 he collaborated with Ingmar Bergman on the drama From the Lives of Marionettes . In 1980/81 Bor was involved in the extensive filming of Wolfgang Petersen 's submarine and world war drama Das Boot and received both the German Federal Film Prize and an Oscar nomination (1983) for his performance . Also in 1983, Petersen secured Bor's collaboration on the fantasy and novel adaptation The Neverending Story , another big box-office success.
Bor also worked with such radically different filmmakers as Loriot ( Pappa ante portas ) , Werner Herzog ( Cobra Verde ) , Margarethe von Trotta ( Rosa Luxemburg ) , Michael Verhoeven ( The terrible girl ) , Gerhard Polt ( One speaks German , Herr Ober! ) , Peter Zadek ( The Wild Fifties ) , Jean-Jacques Annaud ( The Name of the Rose ) , Roland Emmerich ( The Noah's Ark Principle , Joey ) and once even Billy Wilder ( Fedora ) together.
His last major work was to be Joseph Vilsmaier's Stalingrad film in the winter of 1991/92 . In 1993, Bor suffered a sudden hearing loss and then withdrew into private life. Milan Bor was awarded the Bavarian Film Prize in 1987 for his cinematic achievements .
