action

Sonja is a student in a Bavarian monastery high school . In her hometown Pfilzing she was officially honored after an international essay competition. This success spurs them on. She will next take part in the essay competition My City in the Third Reich . With her work she would like to erect a memorial to the local resistance against the Nazis . When she begins to research, however, she realizes that this topic is not at all welcome to the fellow citizens. She meets open resistance to her research . The citizens of the city refuse to give interviews, and the authorities are not cooperative either. Sonja is not discouraged and continues to research. The original rejection of the topic has now turned into a significant disability. The city does not want to be confronted with its past and tries to cover up Nazi crimes that occurred in its city between 1933 and 1945. The student finally gives up. It wasn't until years later that she wrote a book about it that was published. Now the enmity with Sonja , the dirtier of the nest , becomes even more threatening. She even has to fear for her health.

background

The film is based on the authentic case of Anna Elisabeth Rosmus , who experienced something similar to the heroine of the film in her hometown of Passau .

Reviews

“A political comedy that uses satire and polemics to illuminate the problem of inadequately coming to terms with the past. By over-pointing situations and types, the discussion-worthy inventory of forms of repression and their influences on the present is somewhat impaired. Remarkable in terms of cinematic design, as real satire and entertainment quality are combined in a way that is unusual for German film. "

“While the heroine, portrayed by Lena Stolze with a lot of saucy-eyed charm, tells her story to the audience and flatters their superiority, the provincial dignitaries, 'distorted to be recognizable' (as it was called at the time), appear as cabaret-like batches in a small town satire thick-skinned, bigotry and wickedness. They are always nicely single-layered, prepared for ridiculousness and promptly reap that laughter that is gladly taken as recognition. "
