Anna Elisabeth Rosmus (* 1960 in Passau ), formerly Anja Rosmus-Wenninger , is a German writer .

Life

On the occasion of the essay competition Everyday Life in the Third Reich , Anna Rosmus, at the age of 20, dealt with the role of her hometown Passau during this time and how it dealt with the Passau Jews . In her research she encountered resistance. For three years she was not given access to the personal files of the NSDAP Lord Mayor Max Moosbauer until she fought for access to the files in court. It emerged that numerous leading personalities from Passau had been active National Socialists .

In 1983 she summarized the results of her research in the book Resistance and Persecution using the Example of Passau from 1933–1939 . She is also committed to the erection of suitable monuments for the victims of National Socialism, for example in Passau, where this endeavor was not officially supported at the time. In 1996 the memorial for the victims of National Socialism was finally erected directly on the river Inn.

The hostility and threats (up to death threats) from citizens of her homeland, whom she viewed as polluting the nest, caused her to leave her hometown in 1994 and to emigrate to the United States .

For more than 15 years, Anna Rosmus has been traveling the United States regularly with US World War II veterans. Every year she also organizes reunion meetings between veterans and locals in Germany and Austria . She deals particularly extensively with the 65th Infantry Division and General Stanley Eric Reinhart . In 1945, the year of the liberation of Germany and Austria, she dedicated an extensive illustrated book with her book “Walhalla Finale”. A register of the Bavarian and Upper Austrian towns represented in the illustrated book is online.

Today Anna E. Rosmus lives near Chesapeake Bay in Maryland on the US east coast. She is a member of the PEN Center Germany .
