The publishing house Königshausen & Neumann Würzburg was founded in 1979 by Johannes Königshausen and Thomas Neumann and has been run in the legal form of a GmbH since 1991.

One focus of the Würzburger Verlag in Leistenstrasse is the production and distribution of books in the fields of humanities and cultural studies . The main topics include philosophy, literary studies, English studies, German studies, folklore, musicology, medicine, psychology and pedagogy, and many dissertations and habilitation theses are also published. The publishing house has its own print shop and issues around 240 new titles a year, including audio books. Over 6000 titles have appeared so far.

In addition to non-fiction and specialist books, there is a special focus on literature about Richard Wagner , for example the “ Wagner Spectrum ”, which appears every six months . In addition, the publisher publishes various specialist journals such as the annual folklore journal “ Everyday - Culture - Science. Contributions to European Ethnology ”. Other focal points are literature about Spinoza (“ Studia Spinozana ”, 1988–1999), the Schopenhauer yearbook, the series “ Literature in Science and Education ”, and other scientific series.
