history
The erection of a memorial for the victims of the Nazi era has a long history in the city of Passau. The Passau city council decided to build such a monument back in 1947, but it was not implemented. Above all, no agreement could be reached on one location. The project was not taken up again until 1983 - not least on the initiative of the writer Anna Rosmus , who dealt with the Nazi history of her hometown Passau. On November 10, 1996, the memorial was finally erected at a central location in the old town not far from the Inn River .
The erection of the memorial was accompanied by the publication of a written work which, in addition to the history of the origin of the memorial, also includes an article by the historian Peter Steinbach (“Effort of Remembrance”) and a contribution by the Passau author Stefan Rammer (“Aspects of Jewish Life in Passau”) .
