Elmar Schloter

Elmar Schloter (* March 6, 1936 - May 23, 2011 ) was a German organist and conductor .

Life

Schloter was a student of Karl Richter . After being the organist of the Munich Philharmonic , he switched to the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra , where he was a permanent organist. From 1973 on, he also headed the organ and church music department at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich . Another task that Schloter performed until 2005 was that of the first organist in Munich's St. Michaelskirche, and from 1977 he also looked after the choir and orchestra as a conductor.

The arrangement of the organ in the Munich Philharmonic, as well as the sound concept of the new organ in St. Michaelskirche , go back to him.

Schloter gained fame through numerous records, radio and television recordings as well as worldwide concert appearances.

Awards

For his services to Catholic church music , he received the Culture Prize of the City of Munich for interpretive art and the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon . Pope John Paul II made him Knight of the New Year's Eve . From the Pennsylvania State University he was awarded an honorary professorship .
