Lobster is a 6-part crime series that was first broadcast on the evening program of ARD from February 25, 1976 at 14-day intervals . It was produced by Bavaria Atelier GmbH .

Private detective Lobster investigates - if at all, because his favorite piece of furniture is his bed - often on the verge of legality. Most of the cases are located in better circles and are entrusted to him by Commissioner Korn, as they are outside the competence of the police.

Others

Lobster caused the biggest stir long before it was broadcast. Director Hans W. Geissendörfer had the idea for this series. He gave his title hero the English name Lobster , in German lobster, because he has a hard shell, but is otherwise peaceful and only grabs hard when he is irritated. Geissendörfer wrote six scripts together with Klaus Bädekerl . Since the Westdeutsche Rundfunk (WDR), as the commissioning broadcaster, feared too high costs for the implementation, Karl Heinz Willschrei was commissioned to write new books. Five scripts were written together with Peter Berneis, and Geissendörfer's book for the first episode was rewritten. Then Willschrei went on a longer stay in Spain and Geissendörfer began shooting. After his return, Willschrei watched three episodes and was anything but enthusiastic about the result:

“ It's all so stupid and nonsensical. Geissendörfer has come up with a detective who lives like a bum. It all seems so implausible. I will certainly withdraw my name for the 6th episode. I don't want to have anything to do with these tasteless and embarrassing scenes. Geissendörfer filmed something completely different from what I wrote. He tried to rewrite my book the way he would write if he could write. "

Geissendörfer rejected any criticism and accused Willschrei of having only delivered incomplete books. He received support to a certain extent from the then dramaturge of the WDR, Günter Rohrbach :

“ I think Geissendörfer is a very good director. But whether we would give him another six crime episodes is another question ... "

The press announced Lobster as a German Columbo , and director Geissendörfer also predicted with this character a "major turnaround in television crime thrillers" and that one would "gradually get away from the old, worn-out crime scene" . The series could not prevail among critics, the television magazine Hörzu started a survey among German private detectives what they thought of Lobster and received mostly negative reactions.

The series was repeated in 1978/79 and 1991 and was released on DVD.
