Life

After graduating from primary school, Monden trained as a theater painter and then worked as a painter in the theater and film (the 1937/38 productions Dangerous Game, Marriage Trickster, Dance on the Volcano and Adventure in Love ). In 1941/42 he assisted fellow film architects at Rembrandt and Sophienlund and then worked briefly until 1945 at the side of his colleague Karl Machus as the second (= executive) architect.

Shortly after the end of the Second World War, Monden finally switched to the profession of film architect. In this position he worked, initially alongside his experienced colleagues Otto Hunte and Hermann Warm , on three central DEFA productions, including the first German post-war film The Murderers Are Among Us . With the concentration camp escape drama Morituri , Monden began his work for West German production companies at the end of 1947. In the 1950s, he was usually supported by the architect Franz Bi , and later by the young colleague Wolf Englert . Monden was mostly responsible for the execution of the scenery designs by Bis and Englert as well as for all painting activities.

Most recently, Monden had mainly worked as an outfitter for television. Towards the end of his career, he was also active as an assistant to Wolf Englert in the extremely successful ZDF crime series Der Kommissar . At the age of 70, Moons retired.
