Franz Bi , born as Franz Bartlakowski (born April 2, 1899 in Berlin , † December 25, 1968 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber ) was a German architect and film architect .

The decoration painter's son Franz Bartlakowski - he put the stage name "Bi" together from the first and the last letter of his surname - had received training as an engineer and painter and also studied architecture and production design at the United State Schools in his hometown Berlin. He then worked in building construction and interior construction.

Franz Bi worked as a set designer in Berlin from 1930 to 1932, and in April 1939 he was brought in as the second architect to film. Bi worked as chief architect for the Tobis since 1940 , and later he also designed film sets for other production companies. In addition to a myriad of lightweight entertainment materials, Bi was also involved in the equipment of two propaganda films by the directors Hans Bertram ( Kampfgeschwader Lützow ) and Erich Engels ( The Golden Spider ). After the war, Bi mainly worked with colleagues Botho Höfer and, from 1953, Bruno Monden , until he retired from film in 1960. After that he was active for three years for television.
