action

The film takes place during the Bulgarian-Serbian War in 1885. When the cannon of the Swiss captain Bluntschli ( OW Fischer ), who is in Serbian mercenary service, suddenly gives up his service because he had received the wrong ammunition, the latter fled to the “death of honor” Battlefield ” . He ends up in the house of the fiancée Raina ( Liselotte Pulver ) of his war opponent Sergius ( Jan Hendriks ), whose father ( Kurt Kasznar ) is also a "high animal" of the enemy. Raina and her mother ( Ljuba Welitsch ), who came later, hide him. So that he can flee on, Raina gives him a house jacket, which Captain Bluntschli brings back after the peace agreement. The fiancé, who is increasingly interested in the classy maid Louka ( Ellen Schwiers ), and the father have already returned. When Sergius learns that Bluntschli is his rival, and he also watches him leave Raina's bedroom via the balcony, he challenges Bluntschli to a duel. This turns out to be a masterful fencer (which he learned at the St. Gallen gymnastics club ) and also a rich, future husband who is now befitting his class . Sergius consoles himself with the maid, and everything ends in pleasure.
