Helmut Jedele
Helmut Jedele (born October 31, 1920 in Heilbronn ; † April 26, 2012 in Munich ) was a German film producer and president of the University of Television and Film in Munich.
Life
After graduating from high school, Jedele studied German literature, theater studies, philosophy and psychology in Tübingen and Mainz from 1945. In the 1950s, radio offered him numerous opportunities to collaborate. At first he worked as a reporter. Later new forms of literature emerged: the radio play, radio essays and features. In Stuttgart at SDR , the so-called “team of geniuses” around Martin Walser and Jedele quickly made a name for themselves. At the beginning of 1952 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on "Reproduction and Productivity in Broadcasting". phil.
In the following years he concentrated on the introduction of television and thus became one of the fathers of the ARD . In the fall of 1953 he was initially appointed television representative, then television director of the Süddeutscher Rundfunk . In this function he was chairman of the television program conference in 1957 and coordinator of "German television".
In 1959 he went to Bavaria Atelier GmbH ( Bavaria Film ) in Munich, a subsidiary of WDR and "his" SDR. First as managing director and then as general director, he was at the head of this largest television and film production facility in Europe. From Stuttgart, many talents such as Michael Pflegehar , Oliver Storz or Franz Peter Wirth followed him to the Isar. Under his leadership, Bavaria Film developed into the largest German TV supplier and an internationally recognized film studio. Billy Wilder chose “Bavarian Hollywood” as the filming location twice : in 1961 with Eins, Zwei, Drei and 1978 with Fedora . Jedele produced the Robert Aldrich film Das Ultimatum and brought Lothar-Günther Buchheim's novel Das Boot to Bavaria Film.
In 1967 he also took over the management of the film department at the newly founded University of Television and Film in Munich - from 1973 he was its president. Among other things, included Wim Wenders , Bernd Eichinger and Roland Emmerich to his students.
In the early 1980s, he founded his own production company. In addition to his work at the HFF, he was artistically active with many documentaries until he was 80 years old. Jedele was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class and the Bavarian Order of Merit .
Jedele was with Irmgard, geb. Fellhauer, married and had three children: Markus Jedele, Stefan Jedele and Andrea Jedele.
